Do you like comics? In my High School we have been working with students on comics and I find them very interesting to learn English. There are lots of comics, I am going to show you one here and I would like you to comment on it or to upload any comic you like. It is useful to read, to learn English and to enjoy yourself!!! Some web sites on comics could be http://www.stutler.cc/comics/index.html or http://www.dlc.fi/~frank/huumori/comics.htm, for instance.
As you may see, the title below is an English proverb. You might want to know more proverbs and you can read them in http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/English_proverbs. A proverb is a condensed but memorable saying embodying some important fact of experience that is taken as true by many people. The meaning of the one in the title is "There is a positive side to every bad situation. In other words, bad things also produce some good". I love it!! I always try to look at the positive side of everything!. Could you share with us your favourite proverbs? Do you know their translation in Spanish (in Spanish they are called "refranes")?
I also ask you to try and answer this "Proverb Test" to practise them: Proverb Test (1) What should you do before you leap? (2) What shouldn't you judge a book by? (3) What can a leopard not do? (4) What do too many cooks do? (5) What do things that don't kill you do? (6) What does every cloud have? (7) What shouldn't you count? (8) What does the pot call the kettle? (9) What doesn't fall far from the tree? (10) Where should you not put all of your eggs? (11) What do many hands do? (12) What animal can be skinned in many ways? (13) What is the mother of invention? (14) What does absence do? (15) What can't you make a horse do?
Do you like music? When listening to a song we are also "reading" the lyrics. Moreover, after listening to an English song you can go to web pages such as www.songlyrics.com or www.azlyrics.com to read the lyrics and work on their vocabulary if you want. Regarding vocabulary related to music, go to www.dmcclure.org/voc-mus.htm if you want to learn some general terms, or to www.eflnet.com/vocab/music_vocabulary.php to see a picture dictionary on musical instruments, for instance. You may even watch the lyrics on youtube (there are also videos showing the lyrics). In the internet, you may also read about music in web pages such as www.music.com or www.billboard.com So now, let's listen to music, let's read English in songs and DON'T STOP THE MUSIC, BABY!!!!
